IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Interested in a specific dog, please fill out an application if you are interested in a dog. The number of individual inquiries is overwhelming and we are finding it difficult to respond to each one. We cannot guarantee you will receive a timely response.
New England Lab Rescue, Inc. is a rescue, not a shelter, and as such we do not have our dogs housed in one location - they are in foster homes both in New England and in our southern foster homes. If you're interested in a specific dog, please complete a short online application and you will receive a reply within 48 hours so you can ask questions.
At present, if a dog is listed on our website, the dog is considered still available HOWEVER, may have applications that have come in before yours but it's still too early to know if any are a good match; therefore we encourage you to apply.
NOTICE WITH REGARD TO LOCATION OF DOGS: Please note: New England Lab Rescue is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a brick and mortar building to house the dogs we rescue. We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. Dogs listed with New England Lab Rescue typically reside in various locations throughout the south (primarily South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, etc ) and New England. You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not.
Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $175.00 paid directly to the transporting company by New England Lab Rescue, no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. This fee is included in the adoption donation.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heart worm testing/treatment when necessary), and transportation to New England.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your dog will help others in need.
All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do NOT come with a known history.
New England Lab Rescue abides by the dog importation regulations set forth in the states of MA, CT, NH, VT and ME.
Please indicate the names of the labs you would like to adopt on the application. If you see that the lab is soon adopted out, then please look on our web page for more available labs and resubmit another application with a specific lab indicated.
All of our labs have been on a euthanasia list, or the very least, they would have had a very grim future.
We do not have their histories, DNA testing, nor do we always know what circumstances they came from. Most are just awesome, compliant and want to please !! Some have come from abusive situations, some were found as strays, some were surrendered to a shelter. We keep our dogs in foster homes in the Southern State they were rescued from for evaluation, care, short term basic training and making sure that the dog is healthy and ready for a long trip to New England. All labs over 6 months are neutered or spayed, up on all shots and rabies, and been tested for heart worms. If positive, they are treated.
On Transport, these dogs can get stressed from lack of exercise and will need several days to acclimate to a new environment. Most have never seen snow, nor felt real coldness or seen the ocean !! It’s overwhelming for them and your and expectations have to be REALISTIC.
They need weeks to months to settle into their new forever homes. The dog you see will not be the same in a few months with your good care and nutrition. The lab will be learning what it takes to please you and it takes several weeks for the lab to feel safe and comfortable with you. You may need to take your new Lab to Puppy Classes, even if he is two or three years old.
Our dogs may or may not be trained for commands, (although many are), they may need work on house training, they may need to learn many things which they are dependent on you for. Think of it as starting from “Square One”. These dogs were displaced for a reason, and Labs found as strays should be considered a "flight risk" until the dog is trained. Please do not expect these labs to come fully trained. We work diligently as volunteers to save them, to get them into safety and finally into loving foster homes and forever homes.
If you feel you are able to be that caring person or family who is patient, and willing to work with and adopt one of our labs, then please fill out the application below and hit the submit button at the bottom of the application.
Our Labs are not housed in a facility for you to visit. They are in private foster homes where they are evaluated and loved until adoption.
