Colby has been through quite a lot in his short life. He came to us with a badly infected leg that had to be amputated. Within a few days he was well on the road to recovery and already playing and cuddling with the other kittens and cats in his foster home. Colby is a very sweet kitten who enjoys pets and attention. Being a tripod may have temporarily slowed Colby down, however, it's not stopping him from living life to the fullest.

Cairn Terrier Dog aged 13 years
Lola was adopted in 2012 and was recently found as a stray. It was heartbreaking to receive that call from Animal Control, however we are grateful they were able to trace her microchip to us. Lola got the full spa treatment when she arrived and she is now sitting pretty in her foster home. Lola is working on losing some extra weight which will help her feel better. She is already outrunning some of the younger dogs in her foster home! Sleeping in bed with her foster mom and letting the other canines know she is the boss are two of Lola's favorite pastimes. Although she is a senior Lola has a youthful spirit and has a very brave, confident personality. Lola needs a forever home with a loving family that will never abandon her.

Lionhead Rabbit aged 3 years
We think we've found the Energizer Bunny and she is a lionhead rabbit named Flopsy! This active bunny loves to zip in and out of the cat tunnels in her foster home. She quickly hops up to her foster mom if she thinks she has food. And, when there is no food, she just as quickly hops away. Flopsy enjoys pets and is already starting to warm up to the people in her foster home. She does not like to be picked up, and that's okay. She is very tidy and uses her litter box like a pro. She doesn't throw her hay all over the house.

Princess Leia is a gorgeous young calico who thrives on human attention and love. She is very friendly and follows her foster mom around the house. She is a bit of a diva, but in a good way. Princess Leia resides with another young foster cat. They co-exist fine, but she might be happier as an only cat. This lovely royal would also prefer a home where her humans are around a lot. If you work from home, she won't be your assistant, however she may be your supervisor. She has not been around kids, but would probably be fine with them as long as they are respectful.

German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever Dog aged 3 years
If you follow us on Facebook, you already know Luna's story. She came to us from animal care very pregnant. She had complications during birth and had to be taken to the vet for an emergency c-section and immediate spay. Luna had 12 puppies and 8 survived. You might think all those kids would wear her out, but no. Luna is always ready to run, play, chew a bone and have fun. When it's time to relax, Luna thinks she is a lap dog. Luna has the most soulful eyes. It's almost like she is talking to you through her eyes. Just don't ask Luna about her baby daddies. She prefers to keep their identities a secret. It's no secret that every human who meets Luna adores her. Luna is loyal to her people and is already housebroken and knows basic commands like fetch, paw and sit.

Shih Tzu/Maltese Dog aged 11 years
AEAR rescued Lexi when no other shelter or rescue was able to help her. She came to us in pretty bad condition but is getting better every day. Lexi lived with seniors who loved her but were not able to properly care for her. First stop was the groomer because she was matted down to the skin. She is being treated for a yeast infection in her ears. Her sight is limited by cherry eye, which we will have corrected with surgery. Despite everything, Lexi is a happy little dog who loves everyone. Her favorite treat is a Pup Cup from Dairy Dream. We look forward to the day Lexi is having sweet dreams in her forever home.

Not even 5-years old, Grace already has enough life history to write a novel - but she won't. Up until a few weeks ago, Grace spent her life in a puppy mill and was used to produce puppies for profit. We don't know how many litters Grace had. We do know that she did not live in a loving, nurturing home. Given her background, Grace is doing well. She is becoming more comfortable in a home environment and although she can't talk, we are sure she is happy that her baby-making days are over. Puppy Mill dogs often take time to adjust to being around people, however, they are well worth the time investment.

Celeste is one of eight live puppies born to Luna at our vet's office. If you follow us on Facebook, you know that Celeste, her littermates and Luna are all miracles. We believe the puppies are Shepherd mixes and that they will be over 50 pounds when full grown. These working dogs have been hand-raised in a loving foster home in Libertyville, IL. Ideally they will be adopted by active families that are willing and able to to take then for training. Puppies can be left alone one hour for how many months old they are. Two months would be two hours, etc. If you are thinking of adopting any puppy, please be willing to put in the work needed. Once you get past the chewing, housebreaking and other puppy stages, you will have a beautiful, loyal dog. Hint: If you've ever tried housebreaking a new dog in the winter, you know summer is a great time to get a puppy!

Daisy was a mom who took wonderful care of her puppies. They are all adopted and now it's her turn! Daisy is a great Velcro dog. She loves being with her person/people and would be a great companion and maybe even assistant for someone who works from home or is retired. She does take some time to warm up to new people, and because of this we would prefer to adopt her out to someone within an hour of her foster home in Libertyville IL, as she would need a few meetings before adoption. But if you adopt her, Daisy will be your BFF in no time! Be sure to make room in the bed, because she will definitely want to sleep with you. Daisy enjoys running and playing with the other dogs in her foster home. She is a silly girl who is all done raising babies (she was spayed). Now its Daisy's turn to be someone's baby.

Now that the kids are grown, she is ready to be queen of her own castle. Princess Sesame was pretty shy at first. As time has gone on, she has become more comfortable with the people in her foster home. Her ideal person or family will have a quiet home and a bit of patience to let Princess Sesame acclimate at her own pace. Her sister Princess Poppyseed is in the same foster home. While not bonded, the two sisters enjoy playing and spending time together. It would be great (not a requirement) if they could be adopted together. Royalty and loyalty rolled into one beautiful cat. Princess Poppyseed is that and more! At not even a year old Princess Poppyseed gave birth to her own court. She was a great mom and now she is ready to move into her castle. As you can see from her photo, Princess Poppyseed has a kitten face and white fur with gray markings. She looks like she is wearing eyeliner. Like every proper princess, she is very lady-like. While not a lap cat, Princess Poppyseed doesn't mind being held.
Princess Poppyseed is very playful and affectionate . Her sister Princess Sesame is in the same foster home and the two girls enjoy playing together and hanging out. They are not considered bonded, however they do enjoy each other's company. If you have room in your home and heart for two, please consider adopting both sisters. Freckles came to us from a rural downstate shelter. We believe she has rat terrier and chihuahua in her DNA. Even though Freckles' estimated age is 8-years old, she has an adorable puppy face. That face lights up when she is on squirrel watch. Her foster dad is careful to make sure the squirrels stay safe when Freckles is outside. We don't know anything about Freckles' past. We do know she is safe in our care until she finds the right home.

Pebbles was living a very scary life outdoors. Predators could have easily gotten to Pebbles, but she managed to get out of that situation and is now enjoying life in a wonderful foster home.

Hope is thrilled to be in loving foster home after being slated for euthanasia by an overfull shelter. She has that chihuahua attitude that so many people love. Hope is in a home with other dogs and she isn't intimated by any of them! She is a happy girl who loves her toys and enjoys playing fetch. The backyard has all sorts of interesting sights and smells for Hope to enjoy. Once she is tired out, Hope sleeps all night snuggled next to her foster mom. Sassy isn't sassy at all. This sweet lass is a 5-year old beagle mix who came to us on a transport. We likely saved her from euthanasia. Sassy checks all the boxes. She is housetrained, great with kids, dogs and even cats. She is very gentle when taking treats from her foster mom's hand. Sassy has become her foster mom's shadow. She follows her everywhere. Sassy enjoys being outside and she comes when she is called. Ladies don't usually like to talk about their age or weight but Sassy doesn't mind. We estimate that she is 5-years old and she weighs about 30 pounds. Sassy is the total package!

Reggie:

Reggie was living outside when he was found with an injured paw and ,looking really rough. This long-hair handsome hunk had to be shaved down. He was also neutered so he is no longer a ladies' man. Reggie is thrilled to be indoors, and he has turned out to be a perfect gentleman and a lap cat. There are lots of other animals in his foster home and as long as they give him his space he lives well with them. Reggie tested positive for FIV. There is a lot of misinformation about FIV. It is not Feline Aids and it is not fatal. Cats with FIV can live long lives and they usually can live with other cats. According to Alley Cats Allies Quick Facts:
"FIV is a retrovirus that compromises a cat’s immune system.
FIV is a feline-only virus that cannot be transmitted to humans.
Cats who test positive for FIV can live for many years without serious symptoms.
A positive FIV test result SHOULD NOT be a death sentence.
FIV is most often transmitted through a bite from an infected cat
Therefore, cats who test positive for FIV CAN live with FIV-negative cats with minimal risk of transmission as long as they do not fight to the point of biting.
A positive FIV test in a cat is not necessarily a diagnosis. False positives can occur.
We strongly recommend against testing community cats for FIV.
Spaying and neutering is key to preventing FIV spread by minimizing biting behavior that is the main mode of transmission.
More and more shelters realize FIV-positive cats are adoptable and creating lifesaving adoption programs for them." We will test Reggie again to ensure the test was not a false positive. He will bring much love and joy to his forever home.

This sweet standard poodle was born October 11. He has a unique look, with a dark head and ears and light body.

Devon Rex Cat aged 1 year
Stitch is a Devon Rex who lived in a home until his owners got a dog. Then they cruelly threw him out on the street. Neighbors watched them walk with the dog right past Stitch and ignore him. Since they couldn't take him in, they did the next best thing and called us. Luckily we had space for this handsome boy. You might think he would be weary of humans. Not true at all. Stitch adores people and is amazingly sweet. He loves to be held and is anxiously awaiting a forever home with king and loving people.

Molly's foster mom tells us she is very easy going, obedient, housebroken and an awesome snuggler. Looking for a road trip companion? Molly is good on car rides. She prefers to be an only dog. At 10 years old, Molly deserves to be the queen of her household. Adopt Molly and she promises to be your BFF. If you are wondering about that red spot on her eye, it's called "cherry eye." Cherry eye is a condition where the gland within the third eyelid protrudes from its normal position. It is being corrected soon and should not be a factor when deciding to adopt Molly, or any dog.

Mini Poodle Dog aged 6 years
Dolly was used as a puppy mill breeder dog. We don't know how many litters they forced this poor girl to have. Once she was no longer or use to the puppy mill, she was cast aside. She is truly a doll of a dog! In the short time she has been with us Dolly has stolen our hearts. She has the cutest little tail wag and was warmly welcomed into her foster home by the resident dogs. Dolly is learning what it's like to be somebody's baby. She is one special little girl and deserves only the best! Puppy mill dogs often take time to acclimate to new situations. Dolly is relaxed in her foster home, but gets nervous going to new places. She is building confidence every single day and needs a person or family willing to go the extra mile to help her understand that she is safe. She is doing well with housebreaking and is good listener. Dolly's home needs to have at least one other dog and a fenced-in yard. Two really cute things about Dolly are that she carries her toys around in her mouth and she sleeps in bed with her foster parents. We suggest an adult home or a home with older kids. If you happen to have a cat or two, that's okay with Dolly!

Pita is an adorable ginger and brown tabby kitten that is 50 percent play and 50 percent snuggle. She came to us a tiny little baby and is thriving in her foster home. It's not required; however, Pita would love to be adopted with one of her siblings or cat friends. You probably wouldn't eat pita bread by itself, so why adopt Pita by herself?

Cali:
Domestic Medium Hair Cat aged 9 years
Sweet Cali lost her home when her mom had to move to a memory center and none of the other family members wanted her. It's a sad story that we hear way too often. She is a beautiful, mostly white calico with interesting markings, including an upside down heart on her side. Cali settled into her foster home immediately. It's like she knew she was safe. Cali discovered the toy box right away and selected her favorites quickly. Right now she is living in her foster mom's office, however, she is eager to explore the rest of the house. Cali loves attention and she is a world-class snuggler. She uses the scratching posts and has great litter box manners. If you are looking for a more mature cat that is a total love bug, Cali may be your perfect match.
